The new Lake Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC) Headquarters is set for inauguration on 29th- November 2025

The event is expected to be graced by His Excellency Dr. William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya, and chairperson of the East African Community Summit.   Representatives of East African Community (EAC) Partner States and development partners  are also expected to attend

This modern facility stands as a beacon of the EAC’s visibility and permanence in the Lake Victoria Basin, while providing the Commission with the state-of-the-art infrastructure and institutional capacity required to effectively deliver on its regional mandate.

It represents a long-term investment in regional cooperation and a proud demonstration of the region’s ability to mobilize shared resources.

On September 24th, the contractor responsible for the construction officially handed over the completed building to the Commission’s management, marking the successful conclusion of Phase Two of the project.

Construction of this phase began on August 7th, 2023, following the formal handover of the site to a new contractor.

The final phase of construction is currently underway, after the contract was formally signed on October 17th, 2025.

Dr. Masinde Bwire, Executive Secretary of the LVBC, stated: “We are finalizing plans for the inauguration ceremony of our new headquarters, which marks a key milestone for the people of the East African Community.”

The project was fully funded by the EAC Partner States at a total cost of USD 3.54 million, with technical expertise provided by Kenya’s State Department for Public Works under the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing, and Urban Development.

The 2.8-hectare parcel of land along the shores of Lake Victoria was generously donated by the Government of the Republic of Kenya in 2008. Official construction began in 2020.
