The Sectoral Council of Ministers on the Lake Victoria Basin has commended the Lake Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC) for successfully spearheading the construction of its multi million-dollar, state-of-the-art headquarters.
The Chairperson of the Council of Ministers, Hon. Beatrice Askul who is also Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for the East African Community, Arid and Semi-Arid Lands, and Regional Development described the completion of the new building as a landmark achievement for the region.
Leading a delegation of other EAC ministers on an inspection tour of the facility, the Cabinet Secretary expressed satisfaction with the quality and progress of the project.
“I am pleased with the tremendous progress made so far. This new headquarters will be a significant landmark not only for Kenya but for the entire East African Community,” Hon. Beatrice said.
With final touches currently underway, the cutting-edge facility is set to be officially handed over to the LVBC Secretariat on May 31, 2025, paving the way for relocation later in the year.
Located on a scenic 2.8-acre site along the shores of Lake Victoria donated by the Government of Republic of Kenya in 2016 the new complex is designed to centralize and strengthen the Commission’s operations.
The headquarters stands as a flagship symbol of the EAC’s commitment to sustainable development, featuring modern office spaces and state-of-the-art conference facilities.
LVBC Executive Secretary Dr. Masinde Bwire noted that the facility would significantly enhance the Commission’s capacity to coordinate regional efforts.
“We are excited to transition into this new facility, which reflects our expanding role in managing critical trans-boundary initiatives. This headquarters will greatly improve our ability to serve the more than 40 million residents of the Lake Victoria Basin,” he said.
