The INTERVENE project seeks to improve understanding of the impacts of drought on water resources and related socio-economic sectors, including drinking water supply, agriculture (particularly irrigation) and hydropower generation.

The project aims to identify practical adaptation pathways that can strengthen the resilience of both human and natural water systems to increasing drought conditions.

A central component of the project is the integration of gender-transformative approaches. Since women are often disproportionately affected by drought, the project actively promotes their meaningful participation in the co-development of Drought Preparedness and Response Strategies and Action Plans (DPRSPs).

Through a combination of scientific modelling, stakeholder engagement, and policy dialogue, the project contributes to enhancing regional drought preparedness, strengthening water governance and supporting effective climate adaptation strategies
