CALL FOR ABSTRACTS 13TH MARA DAY SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE { Abstract Extension Deadline)

Introduction

The Lake Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC) in collaboration with Masai Mara University is pleased to invite calls for papers, posters and exhibitions on its one-day 13th Mara Day Scientific Conference on the theme “Flowing Forward Together: Conserving the Mara Basin Ecosystem for Sustainable Biodiversity & Climate Resilience”. The conference will be held in Maasai Mara University physically on 14th September 2024. The conference is open to all researchers, students and government officials in the East Africa Community Partner States (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, DRC Congo and Somalia) and International Researchers doing research in Mara Basin Ecosystem who wish to address issues related to the Lake Victoria Basin in an interdisciplinary approach. The symposium will focus on four main themes, but any other theme will be considered if relevant. For each theme, topics from the natural and social sciences are welcome.

Abstract guidelines

All Abstracts submitted should be written in the following order in Ms Word doc. Or docx named as: Sub-theme number _ Country _ Institution _ First Name _ Second Name e.g 3_ Uganda_ Makerere_University_ Otieno_ Mboya or 1_ Tanzania_Univ of Dodoma_ Monika_Janet;

Please ensure your abstracts have: an introductory title, brief summary of challenge being tackled, main motivation of study, methods used, primary findings and resolutions of the study relevant in combatting global challenges.

Kindly remember to mention the sub-theme, national and global blueprints being addressed in your abstract.

Figures and citations are greatly discouraged in the abstracts.

Registration

Registration is free of charge but mandatory to all applicants. 

Presentations

The Organizing Committee will select Oral, Virtual and Poster Presentations with each oral presentation being accorded a maximum of 30 minutes (including Q&A). Poster specifications and guidelines will be provided alongside the Acceptance letters after review of the submitted abstracts. Group presentations will be allowed but like the other individual presentations, will be refrained to a maximum of 30 minutes per presentation only. There will also be 4 Keynote Sessions for each of the four thematic areas. The Committee will also select innovation exhibitions to be showcased parallel to the other presentations. Participants who wish to provide audience and contribute to others works without presenting are also welcome but must register.  Invitation Letters after registration and paper acceptance will be provided. All participants will receive a presentation/attendance certificate after the conference. While the abstracts will be published as conference book of abstract and conference proceedings for full papers submitted, we pursue opportunities of the conference outputs to be published in relevant refereed journals or patented with national and global intellectual property bodies.

  1. The United Republic of Tanzania and Republic of Uganda has received financing from the African Development Bank (AfDB) hereinafter called the Bank toward the cost of the Multinational Lake Victoria Maritime Communications and Transport Project, and intends to apply part of the proceeds toward payments under the contracts for Supply, Installation and Commissioning  of Furniture ( Lot 1), ICT Equipment (Lot 2) and Marine Equipment  (Lot 3)   for Regional Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Mwanza, Tanzania.
  2. Bidders may Bid for one or more Lots, as applicable and, as further defined in the bidding document. Bidders wishing to offer discounts in case they are awarded more than one Lot, as applicable will be allowed to do so, provided those discounts are included in the Letter of Bid.
  3. The EAC Lake Victoria Basin Commission now invites sealed Bids from eligible Bidders for the Supply, Installation and Commissioning of Furniture (Lot 1), ICT Equipment (Lot 2) and Marine Equipment (Lot 3) for the Regional Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Mwanza, Tanzania.
  4. 4.Bidding will be conducted through the Open Competitive Bidding (International), (OCBI) method as specified in the Bank’s Procurement Policy for Bank Group Funded Operations, dated October 2015, and is open to all eligible bidders as defined in the Procurement Framework.
