Lake Victoria Integrated Water Resources Management Programme (LVB IWRMP) is a regional programme coordinated by Lake Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC) and implemented in the five Partner States of the East African Community (EAC): Burundi, Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania.
The Lake Victoria Basin IWRM Programme aims at improving water quality and availability through strategic and sustainable management of the Lake Victoria Basin. The objective is to:
- Strengthen the capacity for cross-boundary integrated water resources management at LVBC through the establishment of a mutually approved and legally anchored IWRM strategy for the basin as well as the establishment of a Water Information System. This supports a pipeline for prioritized investment projects for subsequent financing phases;
- Rapidly improve the water quality of the Lake by reducing effluents into Lake Victoria through the implementation of four High Priority Investments (HPIs) in Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Uganda, identified during a previous study. The first phase of the LVB IWRMP runs until February 2023.
