Lake Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC) Executive Secretary, Dr. Ally Said Matano expresses his condolences to the people of the Republic of Uganda following the tragic accident of a cruise ship in Lake Victoria, Saturday, 24th November 2018.

“It is with great shock that we learnt of the untimely death of our dear sisters and brothers from the tragic accident of the cruise ship, MV K Palm, in Lake Victoria,” Dr. Matano said. He added, “given that this comes barely some few months after another tragedy in Tanzania makes it even more worrying.” MV Nyerere capsized on 20th September 2018, 50 meters from the Ukara Island dock.

LVBC Executive Secretary reiterated his commitment and “pledge to continue pushing for any intervention that shall contribute to making our lake safe and secure for navigation.”

Dr. Matano concluded his condolence message sent to the Permanent Secretary (Ministry responsible for EAC), Ministry of (Responsible for Water and Environment and also the Focal Point Ministry for LVBC) seeking God’s strength to those whose relatives and friends perished in Saturday’s marine accident.
