DR. CANISIUS KANANGIRE THE EXECUTIVE SECRETARY, LAKE VICTORIA BASIN COMMISSION
 Dr. Canisius Kabungo KANANGIRE from the Republic of Rwanda is the Executive Secretary of the Lake Victoria Basin Commission. He joined the Commission on 1st June 2011.
Born on 25th September 1960, Dr. Kanangire holds a PhD in Aquatic Sciences from Facultes Universitaires Notre-Dame de la Paix (FUNDP), Namur, Belgium, attained in 2001. He specialised in Lake Ecology, Aquaculture and Wetlands Management. He also holds an MSc in Freshwater Ecology (University of Namur, Belgium) and a first degree in Biology (ISP/Bukavu, D.R. Congo).
Besides his illustrious academic depth, Dr Kanangire has brought to the Lake Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC) a wealth of professional experience and skills in leadership, management and diplomacy, especially in the areas of institutional strengthening and managing academic and river basin organisations.
Prior to joining LVBC, Dr. Kanangire was the Head of Strategic Planning and Management at the Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) and the Manager of the Institutional Strengthening Project (ISP), a three-and-a-half year basin-wide project aiming at transforming the NBI, from its current status as a transitional institution, to a well- and technically-focused permanent river basin organisation.
The Executive Secretary speaks excellent English, French, Swahili and Kinyarwanda.
