This component provides for a wireless communication system, based upon appropriate technology, incorporating both commercial and safety aspects (non-commercial) and specifically adapted to meet maritime requirements by allowing two-way contact between boats in distress and emergency rescue coordination centres.
- Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre. This component provides capacity to process distress signals and coordinate search and rescue activities on Lake Victoria.
- Search and Rescue (SAR) institutions. This component seeks to establish SAR facilities on Lake Victoria to save lives and enhance security.
- Capacity building. This component seeks to provide resources necessary for the effective project coordination, management and execution.
