Meta Database
Generally a meta-database is a structured summary of information that describes the data. It includes characteristics of the data such as full name, short name, short description, keyword contact reference, distribution policy, status, and dataset table elements. The purpose of the meta-database is to identify what exists; describe its content and geographic extent; enable potential users to assess the suitability of the data for various purposes; and indicate more information about the data can be obtained.
The objective of the meta-database is to enable easy access to the data on the aquatic biodiversity in the Lake Victoria basin so as to improve planning and decision making. The meta-database is based on internationally recognized standards of FGDC, CSDGM, and ANZLIC. The meta-database provides the structure and format of the data/information, together with conditions and policies for accessing the information. It has also provides table elements that have been used in the design of the meta-database.
